  17. The often heard and repeated statement that when you are in Rome, you need to do as the remainder of the Romans do, will truly get you into trouble when patrolling in an inner city neighborhood, by either costing you your job or your life.
    As a former USMC pistol instructor and economics professor who lives in numbers and statistics, you probably are puzzled by the rarity of “racists” in our combat military where the majority of our enemies have been of a culture or race different than our American Mixture.
    I would doubt that many prize winning journalists would take the time to ask questions about ethnicity or heredity when things go sideways quickly. I remember seeing a handout from an industrial training company stating “Stupid is forever, ignorance can be fixed.”,which is a common way to learn.
    What is labeled as racism, is in many cases a two way street brought on by our parents, or a lack of them, and aggregated by our education system. Hyper vigilance can be a result of attending the funeral services of others killed in the line of duty.
    As usual, another sensible, thought provoking presentation. Thank you for furthering my education.

  18. Mr. Sowell nor Heather MacDonald of the Manhattan Institute can infiltrate the unconscious of any one consistently and reliably enough to discern who has or who has not in them
    prejudging imprints which affects their behavior. This applies to all humans, law enforcement personnel as well. The so called 'liberal' media distort a number of issues and spread
    those distortions like a virus to a miseducated, brainwashed public and no one should be surprised by that reality being shaped for a gullible public by those cleaver enough and
    crafty enough to execute such mental and psychological confusion and then peddle it as TRUTH!

    There is nothing more powerful and difficult to define, let alone understand, as the human MIND and many books are out there that go deeply into this subject, "Strangers to Ourselves" by Timothy D. Wilson, and "Sources of Power" (How People Make Decisions) by Mr. Gary Klein are enlightening texts that should be added to the reading lists that
    would include the text mentioned here written by Ms. MacDonald!

    I always investigate, as Mr. Sowell has himself often remarked, SEVERAL sources and opinions as well as my own personal experiences before coming to conclusions on any
    subject that attracts my attention.
